Harvest Time Is Coming
From the Pastor
HARVEST TIME IS COMING
When Jesus began his ministry on earth he went throughout the cities and villages both teaching and healing people. The scriptures tell us he did so because he “had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matthew 9:37)
To be a disciple of Jesus means to do our very best to be like Jesus. Clearly this would mean we, like him, need to show compassion to those who are hurting and feel helpless.
If we do so, there will be a great harvest because we know that “the fields are white for harvest.” (John 4:35)
Coming up on September 21-22, we are planning a “harvest festival” where we plan to share with others our harvest of the fruit of the Spirit, so that they might see the glory of Jesus and share in the harvest of eternal life.
While I am really excited for that weekend, I am also a slight bit nervous. Even when Jesus was on this earth he had to remind his disciples that “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” (Matthew 9:37)
If Jesus struggled with laborers when he was here in person, how much more might we struggle on his behalf when he now sits at the right hand of God?
The normal thing to do at this point would be to suggest or even beg you to be a part of the planning, preparation, and execution of our harvest festival.
Instead, I want to ask you to do the very thing Jesus asked his disciples way back then to do. “Pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into the harvest.” (Matthew 9:38)
If you would please commit to doing that one thing, in faith I believe the Lord Jesus will “fill our nets to the point we will not be able to haul them in because of the quantity of the harvest.” (John 21:6)
